I directed a team of designers from initial concepts through to the final identity, one based on craft, heritage, and mystery. mortalsalt.com https://mortalsalt.com/Wing-Dome &nbsp; Wing Dome Wing Dome is a northwest icon—purveyor of spicy wings, beloved by locals (especially on game days), and recognized by their flaming neon signs since 1994. The chain, named as a play on “Kingdome,” had shrunk since its heyday and changed hands since its founding. Restaurant group E4 was looking to reinvigorate the brand with an eye to expansion throuhout the Northwest. We agreed with E4 we needed to keep what was working and build on the “soul” their long-time regulars and employees felt the brand owned, particularly the give-and-take “sass” they had in common. For this project I led a tight team team of one designer and two writers, establishing a conceptual framework and tagline “Feed Your Fire” to build an identity that’s both seriously hot and fiery fun for touchpoints ranging from a manifesto, brand guidelines, expanded identity elements, menus, outdoor advertising, and retail space design.ExecCD—Steve Barrett, CD—Daniel R. Would Have Said (If She Wasn't a Pillar of Salt)” is an astonishingly moving work drawing parallels between Lot's biblical flight from Sodom and Gomorrah and turning our collective backs on the heartbreaking human toll associated with the ongoing AIDS crisis—a poem with the power to consistently reduce audiences to tears. Which begs the question, how do we monetize the shit out of this fucker? This poem, with blockbuster potential, languishes in the sub-basement that is poetry publishing and “art crowd” audiences. Our smartest avenues for high ROIs with minimal up-front PR dollars are strategic corporate tie-ins and product placements. We envision strong interest from tweens and 20-somethings, therefore a range of hip-urban-aspirational-yet-obtainable products, quickly consumed on-the-go, from cupcakes to running shoes. With a concentrated marketing push centered on the 2011 pre-holiday season, Finneyfrock’s poem will certainly be top of consumer’s minds come December 25th.&nbsp; First edition copies of “Mortal Salt” can be found in several book arts collections, including: University of Washington, Yale University, Emory University, Swarthmore College, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA). of designers to create membership and visitor materials, subbrand identities (Electric Bus—a mobile museum, restaurant, bar and store), plus overseeing design events concepts and marketing for grand opening. In a few years my role expanded to include oversight of marketing materials for a second, co-located museum, The Science Fiction Museum (SFM). I created exhibit and program identities, internal and external signage, a wayfinding system, and much more, but my favorite projects were the posters, particularly for artists like Annie Leibovitz, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan. for the democratization of wine. With more 90+ point bottles than any winery in America, its accessibility and quality can’t be matched. With early design explorations I pushed for a near-monochromatic visual language for the brand, reflecting the new label design and underlining the idea of simple luxury. For a studio shoot, I&nbsp; wanted to create a sense of “rural luxury”—the feeling of being in Walla Walla, surrounded by farm country and down-to-earth, upscale restaurants. Our winemaker photo &amp; video shoot, tightly-timed and overlapping, was made particularly challenging the a last-minute loss of our videographer due to covid. I directed both shoots simultaneously.
